The Argungun Fishing Festival held last week 4th – 7th March 2020 is an ancient International fishing festival in Kebbi State, Northern part of Nigeria that attracts a great number of participants and spectators locally and globally.
The Fishermen who snag the biggest fish win. Prizes range from 2 Hajj seats, cars to cash prizes in Thousands of dollars. This year the 1st to 3rd prize winners caught human-sized fish weighing 78kg, 75kg, and 70kg respectively.
The festival dates back to Surame Gungu of Kebbi Kingdom is held at the Mata Fada river in Argungun Town Kebbi State. Over 30,000 fishermen and villagers are said to take part.
