In my father land our problems are legion and they are like an Elephant in a living room. Generally overlooked and the populace encouraged to learn to live with them, blurting out the famous, “e go better!” But the problems never go away.
They must be spotted and addressed. Save they be apparitions or shadows it is common knowledge that an Elephant cannot be swept under the carpet. Adult, Abortus or otherwise.
Let the debate begin. Let the healing begin. #Soro Soke.
Let’s talk about the Elephant in the Room. The #EndSARS protest was a metaphor for change. An admix of the collective angst and frustration of decades of bad governance, corruption, Police brutality, impunity and insecurity. As one of the youths succinctly put it, “Our tired is tired.”
But these ills aren’t endemic or exclusive to Nigeria or even Africa. They are global. They are problems that plague our human story as we learn to live next to one another in larger and larger socio-economic constructs called towns and cities and countries. Nation States.
Often times they dovetail into other global crises, like climate change, poverty, water crisis, education, food crisis, global warming, healthcare crisis, economic crisis, gender discrimination and violence, unemployment et al
As a species we must learn to manage a burgeoning population and finite resources.
My prayer is that the Covid 19 pandemic affords us the opportunity to rethink and do better. For the common good.
