As we watched Afghans scramble for seats on a moving C -130 Hercules Aircraft, in the wake of a US Exit, my Older Sibling and I contemplated the things that really matter in a world that was increasingly being shaped by theological and political ideas.
In other unrelated news astronomers were celebrating being able to view distant galaxies in ultra high definition.
Different folks. Different priorities. 🙂🙃
After a moment of consideration my brother came up with a few problems and solutions along SDG (Sustainable Development Goals) lines; Addressing climate change, hunger, water crisis, political instability and insecurity, poverty and diseases … 😷🤢🤯

I nodded in agreement but went further. I told him humanity should channel its energies towards colonizing the stars and achieving immortality (or atleast something close to it). Nanotechnology and Stem Cell Research might hold some promise in this regard – but that’s a post for another day. 🚀🔭🔬📡💊🧬🩺
I noted that this two pronged goal was only achievable if we begin to recognize and embrace a unity of purpose that transcends politics, religion, war, economic interests, ethnicity, nationality and gender. Perhaps something akin to his SDGs and finding commonality in our human condition.
Space Exploration and Immortality. These I believe are two things that should matter and do matter. Why ?

Well, let’s consider these facts. Contextually. Modern man has only been around for roughly 150,000 years. On a pale blue rock roughly 4.5 billion year’s old (with multiple extinction events, climatic re-adjustments and rebirths). And in less than 150 years we (as a species) have managed to commit such waste, and destructive exploitation that now threatens our very existence and that of the environment and wildlife cotenants (fauna and flora). If we do not come together to heal and fix the planet and leverage on science and technology to prolong our days and improve our quality of life exponentially; OR figure out a way to star trek effectively and efficiently; we shall in no distant time become a footnote in the history of the planet. Mother Earth shall shake us off like a bad cold and move on in her yearly orbit of the noble yellow Sun.

My heart goes out to the Afghans and all victims of tyranny and oppression globally.
My one true wish and desire is that we wake up as a species.
