The Genius of Kcee’s Ojapiano

Many years from now, when the History of Afrobeats music is written, Nigerians would come to appreciate and acknowledge the genius of Kcee in the song Ojapiano. Oja is the Igbo word for the native flute which is used to commune with masquerades and make beautiful music during cultural festivals and celebrations like – coronations, marriage ceremonies, or the new yam festival in the eastern part of Nigeria.

Ojapiano, the song, has hints of amapiano and Afrobeats fused with the sound of the Oja, which features prominently in the background. The music is innovative and cutting edge. I look forward to more afro fusions and collaborations from artists. Like the late great Robert Nesta Marley (aka Bob Marley) once said, “One good thing about music when it hits you it moves your soul.” Music is indeed a universal language. It can only be thoroughly appreciated and enjoyed when you leave your biases and inhibitions at the door. Thank you, Kcee, for projecting the culture.
